Aspire Tips & Tricks – 1.2. CV with Silvia Cărășel

We are more than happy to continue our inspiring series about improving your application with a new perspective on how you can craft an outstanding CV.

The next Alumni that decided to help us in this journey is our beloved Silvia Cărășel, our 2021 Professionals Alumna who is Associate Product Marketing Manager at Google and gave us some interesting ideas.

1. In your opinion, what are the most important 3 elements every successful CV must have?

In my opinion, the most important elements every successful CV must have are:

Relevance: A CV should highlight the relevant skills, experiences and qualifications that match the requirements of the job you are applying for.

Clarity: A CV should be well-structured and easy to read, with clear headings, bullet points, and concise language.

Personalization: A CV should be tailored to the specific job and company you are applying for, highlighting the unique qualities and strengths you bring to the role.

2. What is the best advice/feedback you have ever received regarding your CV?

The best advice I have ever received regarding my CV was from a mentor who emphasized the importance of tailoring my CV to each specific job I apply for. They advised me to thoroughly read the job description and to match my skills and experiences to the requirements mentioned. This way, my CV would serve as the perfect answer to the needs outlined in the job description. I found this advice to be very helpful, as it not only allowed me to showcase my relevant qualifications but also demonstrated my commitment and understanding of the role.

3. If you were to change anything about how your CV looks/presents itself now, what would that be?

I would remove some details from experiences older than 4-5 years. Less is more. My understanding of what makes a successful CV has matured over time. I used to use colours and graphics that would make my CV more eye-catching, but I’ve come to understand that a cleaner design is better. The content of the CV is equally, if not more, important. A well-structured and concise CV should clearly highlight the relevant skills, experiences, and achievements and not waste space on irrelevant details. It’s important to remember that you only have one page to make an impression, so it’s crucial to focus on the content that will make you stand out to potential employers.

We hope that you’ll find this information useful and interesting and you’ll use it in writing your future resume.

That being said, the Late Phase is open until April 3rd, so… Apply now!
